Dr. Ron Gentile, author of “The Four Factors” provides a simple and systematic approach to help you with your dating and relationship issues. This fabulous book is geared towards people who are looking for love as well as people who are currently in a relationship. In relationships, we laugh and cry and try to figure out whether to say goodbye. Dr. Gentile closes that gap in the decision making process to the point where we figure out whether we should stay or go.
Dr. Gentile breaks down the relationship puzzle into four basic factors: physical attraction, communication, personality and values. These four categories are great measurement tools in evaluating your past, current or future relationships!
One aspect of the physical attraction factor Dr. Gentile discusses is kissing. He describes “romantic kissing” to be a core manifestation of physical attraction. He views kissing to be used as “non-verbal communication of the feelings.” He shares his own hilarious kissing experiences where he felt as though he was experiencing a medieval joust or tonsil attack. After many unsuccessful attempts in adjusting his mate’s kissing style, he gave up and moved on.
Dr. Gentile also emphasizes the importance of great communication which brings you closer to your partner. Good communication is known as a “dance made for two.” His experience with a partner who would never say anything about how she felt about a particular situation with him led to a failed relationship. Without communication, the relationship could not blossom into a forever dance.
Personality matching is yet another key component. Are you dating an energy vampire who drains you of your positive energy or do you find this person to be motivating and inspiring to be around? By applying the factor method and writing down how you feel when you are around them, you can determine whether you and your potential mate connect well together.
Although you could potentially match well in these three areas, if your core values are not aligned with each other, there is no future. For example, if your spirituality is a key focus in your life while your partner is not spiritual at all, how can you grow spirituality?
Overall, Dr. Gentile mentions that there is no right or wrong.
