New Age Music
New age music is a wide-ranging music genre which incorporates many other genres including ambient, chillout, mood, spacerock, experimental, contemporary instrumental, atmospheric, world music, jazz, classical and electronic music amongst others.
According to historians, new age music‘s prime source are two 19th century classical avant-garde composers Claude Debussy and Erik Satie. The term new age music was originally coined in the 1960′s to describe the emerging sounds from the us and around the world, and is now a widely established and respected musical genre in its own right. It has become a musical home to some of the great composers of our time.
Defined more by the effect or feeling it produces rather than the instruments used in its creation; it may be electronic, acoustic, or a mixture of both. New Age Music is used to create a peaceful atmosphere in their home or health clinic for inspiration, relaxation, and positive feelings, often used by listeners for yoga, massage, inspiration, relaxation, meditation, and as a method of stress management. It is also used in association with new age spirituality and in addition to alternative medicine or what sometimes called complementary medicine. Commonly examples of alternative medicine include, naturopathy, reiki, chiropractic, herbalism, traditional Chinese medicine, ayurveda, colour therapy, meditation, yoga, biofeedback, hypnosis, homeopathy, acupuncture, diet-based therapies and exercise.
New age music is a musical artists playground mixing electronic sounds, traditional and native instruments and vocals. A favorite new age cd or cds can be re-mixed or complied to match emotion and venue whether you are enjoying a massage, or some other form of healing. By the 1990s, new age music had found its place in the mainstream with new age artists such as Enya John Tesh and Yanni and the rise of the internet saw the emergence of online new age radio stations.
